  • Presence of minerals in prawns, such as calcium help to maintain healthy teeth and bones.
  • High content of Vitamin B12 and low cholesterol content in prawns contributes to the betterment of cardiovascular health of a person.
  • Contains Omega 3 which when helps in prevention and reduction of the Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
  • Prawns are also rich in Selenium, which is believed to prevent the growth of Cancer cells in the body.
  • Calorie content is low in Prawns than in meat and beef.
Thus with all the nutritional content in Prawns make it tastier and healthier option over many other food stuff.

Fish Roe/ Egg cutlet

fish egg cutlet

Fish Roe/Egg is a delicacy in Bengali cuisine and is one of my favorites from childhood. So this time when I visited my parent's place, my father got some Fish egg separately from the market. Every monsoon this is available in plenty and can be cooked as cutlets or in gravy. The cutlets made here is from Katla . They can be prepared in minutes , serve them as lip smacking delicacies in appetizers or in spicy gravy or just as a snack with a hot cup of tea.

Last month when I visited my aunt's place , she made this wonderful Fish fry with mustard and onion paste. I liked it so much I tried it out back home and everybody loved it including my parents.  In Bengali, this fish is called Rangi Ruli. Unfortunately could not figure out the english name :-( , but this is a Oily fish like Salmon, Herring, Trout or Sardines. Can use any one of them as a substitute.

Bottle Gourd with Fish head (Macher matha die Lao)Recipe and....

an Editor's Choice Award from Be@Home ...........
bottle gourd with fish head

This is a wonderful side dish of Bottle Gourd (Lauki) with Fish head to go with Rice/Chapati. Generally I prepare this recipe with cabbage, but finally ended up using Bottle gourd  plucked from my very own garden :-). Using fish head is optional, try using small prawns instead or prepare it simply without using Fish head /Prawns.
